Bandar Seri Begawan - The Liang Lumut Recreational Club Soccer Carnival in a bid to raise funds for charity bodies kicked off yesterday with a street football tournament.


Twelve teams throughout four districts took part in the meet which is the first of four other sporting events which will take place weekly till May 24.
LLRC Senior Sales Manager Muhd Khairul Azhar bin Abdul Karim said the objective of the carnival is to collect money for the Palestinian Humanitarian Fund and the Flood and Landslides Victims Fund.

Forty percent of the proceeds from the registration fees will be distributed to the two funds.

Other sports events such as 5-a-side tournament will take place on May 3 while the beach soccer tournament will be held on May 10, followed by water soccer tournament on May 17. "Champions from every sporting event will compete for the grand championship title on May 24 where a trophy and cash prize of $500 awaits the winner," said Muhd Khairul Azhar.

The first to third prize winners in the four sporting events will win cash prizes ranging from $100 to $140. Locals and permanent residents are welcome to take part. All the events will take place at the vicinity of LLRC and the carnival was launched on April 17 by the Belait District Officer Awang Haji Jamain bin Momin.
